O'Sullivan Cup - 2025

Well done to Maxwell Rowe-Haynes (Celtic Sword), on his second win in this popular competition, the 36th event in the series.

Max got off to an early start with 16 points by the second round, with Jacob Minshall (Celtic Sword) and Daniel Miller (Bristol White Eagle), also on 16 points .  Close behind were Andrea Bertelli (Whitchurch) and Ben Heath (Celtic Sword) with 14 and 13 points respectively.  In the next round, Max and Daniel continued to edge ahead, both with 26 points, closely followed by Ben on 22 points, with Daniel Savin (Jersey) & Jacob just behind on 21 points, and Andrea on 20 points.

More furious fencing in the fourth (final) round, as Andrea pulled ahead of  Ben & Jacob, finishing on 31 points in 3rd place, with former winner Adrian Stoneman just behind, 4th, on 28 points.    Max and Daniel Miller had tied for first place with 34 points, which was settled by a one-hit fence off, putting Daniel in second place, by one point.

Often described as `fast and furious`, this was an exciting contest, with several contestants expressing their appreciation for it. 

Thanks to Paul (Red) Redmond, and the O'Sullivan family for their continued support; to Daniel Savin from Jersey, who had travelled here specially to compete; to veteran fencer Tony Westacott accompanied by three newcomers to fencing from Swansea, also to Jon & Ann Dawkins for their expert refereeing, and to Simon Corcoran for handling running repairs in the Armoury -  and last but not least to Cardiff Academy of Fencing for use of their salle.

Apologies too from David Hopes, local photographer, who had taken last year’s stunning photos, and who was unable to attend the competition this year as it clashed with a photographic exhibition, where one of his photos from last year’s event competition is being exhibited.
