O'Sullivan Cup mixed épée - Cardiff - 19 February 2012

Well done to George Hawksworth (Cardiff), on his second successive win the O'Sullivan Cup.

This was another well attended event, which was one of our most successful ever, and a notable feature was the number of supporters, friends, parents, and even grand-parents, attending the event.

No sign of jet-lag on George's part, as he had just returned from the Commonwealth Junior Fencing Championships in Jersey, the day before, and was in top form.   Close on his heels throughout was former cup holder Nick Lee, who had won the cup several times in the 90s.   However George was just able to edge ahead, and got the verdict, with Nick in second place.

Also making progress effectively throughout were Adrian Stoneman, and another former cupholder Gareth Law, who both finished in joint third place. Gareth was a last minute entrant, having been able to fit the competition in with his work commitments, and Adrian was the proud possessor of a new Leon Paul SR71 blade, purchased the previous day, which no doubt helped his success.

Well done to young entrants Jack Cafaro & Lewis Stiens, making their first foray into the O'Sullivan.

Thanks again Leon Paul for supporting us with a ‘mini-stand’, selling a selection of popular items, and also to Chris Wheeler for his excellent armoury service, and last but not least, Laura Parker, returning to Wales from Oxford for the day, to act as our photographer.
