Whitchurch Fencing Club
Clash in the Castle, open-air epee match - 22 June 2025

Marc, the Victorious Vicar
Very well done to club member, Marc Walford, who took first place in the `Clash in the Castle` open-air epee match, in Coity Castle, Bridgend, organised by Celtic Sword Fencing Club. Very closely fought with experienced epeeists, Max Rowe-Haynes, Andrea Bertelli, and Rupert Nute in hot pursuit, Marc had a clean sweep, undefeated in any of his matches in the event, which was run as a Poule Unique.
An accomplished fencer in his own right from his time at Aberystwyth University Fencing Club, Marc’s day job is as an Anglican Vicar, and is seldom free on Sundays. “I think this must be the first external competition I’ve entered in 10 years”, said Marc excitedly, on receiving the medal for first place.
1st place - Marc Walford (Whitchurch)
2nd place - Max Rowe-Haynes (Celtic Sword)
3rd place - Andrea Bertelli (Whitchurch)

Well done, Ioan
Well done too for club member, Ioan Parry, who took the first place in the morning competition for `Improvers`, also facing tough competition from fellow club members, as well as several energetic younger fencers from Celtic Sword.
1st place - Ioan Parry (Whitchurch)
2nd place - Bogdan Ratiu (Whitchurch)
3rd place - Carl Brain (Whitchurch)
Thanks to Celtic Sword for organising this event.
