Bronze in the Cardiff Veterans Open - 25 May 2024, Cardiff Academy of Fencing

Well done to club member Rupert Nute, and his colleague Adrian Stoneman from 'Team Dragons` (from the Team Epee championships earlier in the year), who both took third place in this year's Cardiff Veterans Open.

As Rupert explained, it was a closely fought contest. There were no easy fights, with everyone winning at least one. Adrian was seeded 1st after winning all 6 of his poule fights, but was beaten in the semi-final by Paul Willmott, who had a strong flèche that was difficult to evade.

Rupert, seeded 6th after the poules, was knocked out in the semi-final by Rob Brooks (a former team-mate from the Veteran's Home Nations). An unexpected surprise was the medals, which look really good, & appear to be made of Welsh slate. Medal winners also received a Welsh lovespoon keyring.
