O'Sullivan Cup - 2023

O'Sullivan Cup logo

Well done to Adrian Stoneman (Cardiff), on today's exciting win, his 4th win in this popular competition.

Off to an early start was last year's winner, Nikolas Antoniou (Cardiff University), with Daniel Miller (Bristol White Eagle) and Samuel Godbehere (Malvern) hot on his heels.  Making progress quietly in the second & third round was Adrian Stoneman, equalling Nikolas with 26 points at the end of the 3rd round.  By the 4th and penultimate round Adrian had pulled out a narrow lead of 35 points, ahead of Samuel on 33 points.

Catching up and equalling Adrian in the fifth and final round was Daniel Miller with 38 points, ahead of Nikolas on 36 points. To settle first and second place, a one-hit fence off was arranged with the mounting tension evident. This was only the second time in the event's history that this had occurred, and was soon settled with a hit for Adrian, giving him the verdict. An exciting finish !

Well done also to Abigail Brown & Harry Robinson (both Whitchurch) on their first outing in this event.

Thanks again to Simon Corcoran for his armoury services, to Jon and Ann Dawkins, Referees for their expertise,
- and last but not least, to Peter Russell for the use of Cardiff Academy of Fencing.

Format : Poule unique.

"Brilliant ! The rules were clearly explained, it was really smooth, and very enjoyable."    - feedback from one competitor...
