Cardiff find their one-hit wonders

Representatives of several different clubs, plus a number of budding modern pentathletes contested last weekend's 17th O'Sullivan Cup one-hit epee competition at Pentwyn Leisure Centre, Cardiff.

The winner was Richard Hildick-Smith, a 20-year-old pentathlete, based in Cheltenham, and a member of Bath Swords, ahead of seven times winner Nick Lee and Chris Powell, both of Cardiff.

Hildick-Smith led by just one point from Lee at the half-way stage and the result was in doubt until the final round of bouts in the competition, which involved each competitor fencing against every other.
